Goblin of the Week 003

Goblin of the Week 003

  • Aug 21

Welcome to Goblin of the Week, where the concept is so sinple even Goblin players will get it. Every week, we pick one Goblin. That Goblin is Goblin of the Week. That's it. We are also aware there’s a typo in the first sentence but we don’t fixing typos for Goblin of the Week either which is a new rule we just invtented.

You may be wondering how we pick the illustrious Goblin of the Week? You're assuming we've thought that far ahead. And thinking is for Blue.

Did you know that there are 16 goblins that are also pirates? Three of them are Breeches but the one that came up first on the random goblinomatic machine was Breeches, Brazen Plunderer, the Goblin of the Week. Actually, you know what? There’s three different Breecheses. They can all be Goblin of the Week. (There are also three other goblins with the Partner rule but even we have our limits.)

So avast, ahoy, etc me mateys, as we take a short planeswalk to Ixalan, where the goblins are all blue which we’ll excuse because they’re also pirates.

Breeches first appeared as a crew member of the Belligerent, which is an amazing name for a piraet ship even if he wasn’t the captain. Or an officer. Or really anything except in possession of some glorious sideburns. It was perhaps this lack of commission that led his first iteration to be built on the classic Pirate mechanic of stealing other people’s cards.

Breeches returned most recently in Outlaws of Thunder Junction, which was fine because he was already wearing a hat. It turns out that leaving Ixalan causes one to embrace pyromania, because this Breeches doesn’t steal anything and flips coins to copy spells, maybe. “Do X, maybe” is possibly the best way to describe goblins as a state of mind.

Jpin us again next week as we set goblin sail on another goblin voyage.

Editor's note - while it is standard practice for Manacat NOT to correct any typos in Goblin of the Week articles, we'd like to note that we corrected the title of this edition so that there weren't two articles titled "Goblin of the Week 002".
