Goblin of the Week 004

Goblin of the Week 004

  • Aug 28

Welcome to Goblin of the Week, where the concept is so sinple even Goblin players will get it. Every week, we pick one Goblin. That Goblin is Goblin of the Week. That's it. We are also aware there’s a typo in the first sentence but we don’t fixing typos for Goblin of the Week either which is a new rule we just invtented.

You may be wondering how we pick the illustrious Goblin of the Week? You're assuming we've thought that far ahead. And thinking is for Blue.

I’m surprised it took this long for us to get here. Though it’s only the fourth goblin of the week, they are not a people known for their patience. But today, we pay homage to what might be my favourite card in all of Magic. Please be upstanding and compelled to send your stupidly large hydras at the next Goblin of the Week: Brash Taunter.

It’s not secret that goblins as a type like to play with blowing themselves up. Hurting the player to hurt everyone else just a little bit more. Brash Taunter instewad asks the question: I fight your biggest dude and you get hit instead and I don’t die.

The astute amongst you will note that this isn’t a question. Brash Taunter doesn’t care. Fight him anyway and suck it. The original art from Svetlin Velinov does excellent work depicting a goblin too angry for his own good, but I’m a suicker for the more recent reprint from Edgar Sánchez Hidalgo because a 1/1 goblin picking fights is the kind of goblin worthy of being given an arbitrary weekly award.

While the original and the Karlov Manor reprint have some excellent flavour text, we also encourage anyone running Brash Taunters to come up with their own taunts. Really make everyone hate the little creep. It’s okay. He can take it.

First Printing: Core Set 2021

Notable Reprints: Murders at Karlov Manor (2024), with a spiffy new outfit
